Fight Back from One Game Down: Pearly-Thinaah Advance at Kumamoto Masters Japan 2025
Malaysia's top women's doubles pair, Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah, opened their campaign at the Kumamoto Masters Japan 2025 with a hard-fought comeback victory over Japanese opponents Misato Aiso and Momoha Niimi. After dropping the first game 18–21, the top-seeded Malaysian duo dominated the next two sets 21–9, 21–17, sealing the match in 53 minutes.
They will next face South Korea's Jeong Na Eun and Lee Yeon Woo, a pair they have defeated in all three of their previous meetings.
In men's singles, Kok Jing Hong delivered a confident performance, defeating India's Kiran George 22–20, 21–10. He advances to the round of 16, where he will meet sixth-seeded Japanese player Kenta Nishimoto.
Mixed doubles pair Jimmy Wong and Lai Pei Jing also progressed, beating Taiwan's Ming Che Lu and Hung En-Tzu 21–19, 21–15. Their next challenge is the seventh-seeded Taiwanese duo Ye Hong Wei and Nicole Gonzales Chan.
However, it was a day of mixed emotions for the Malaysian squad. Men's singles hope Leong Jun Hao exited the tournament after a tight battle with India's Pramoy H.S., losing 21–16, 13–21, 21–23.
On a brighter note, in women's singles, Wong Ling Ching swept past Japan's Nanaho Kondo 21–16, 21–11, setting up a round of 16 clash with Canada's Michelle Li.
